About Our Trainer

Hey! I’m Caleb Kirtner, head trainer at Pet Resorts. My passion for dogs started at a young age and grew as I began training dogs in high school.

I’ve known since then that this is what I wanted to do. The thing I love most about training dogs is being able to see the change and growth in your dogs, but I also love to see owners be able to fully enjoy their lives with their pets, instead of being limited due to a lack of training.

I believe that no two dogs are the same and that is why we have made our programs in a way that gives us the complete freedom to work with a dog in the way that is best for them! I am always looking for new training tools and tactics to create a better end result for you and your family. I look forward to meeting and working with you and your pup!

Puppy Program

Our puppy program consists of potty training, crate training, socialization, desensitizing, molding behaviors, and the introduction of basic obedience commands through motivation and positive reinforcement. It will also consist of the beginning phases of teaching your pup how to behave and walk at heel on a leash. The basic obedience commands include here, heel, sit, place, stay, down, kennel, quiet, and off.

  •  4 week program
  • Dogs from 4 – 6 months of age
  •  Board and Train: available
  • Daily update videos so you can see how your dog is doing with the training. These videos will also help to give you an understanding of the commands and what is expected.

On Leash Board & Train Program

Our on leash program consists of a more thorough form of socialization, desensitizing, and molding of behaviors.

Your dog will be taught to walk at heel on leash through a multitude of distractions.

They will be taught basic obedience commands such as here, heel, sit, place, stay, kennel, quiet, and down. These commands will also be reinforced through multiple types of distractions while on leash. The puppy program is not a prerequisite to this class, although it is highly recommended.

Off Leash Board & Train Program

Our off leash program is based on a continuation of our on leash program being paired to an e-collar. The purpose and benefit of the e-collar is to be able to reinforce the commands your dog has been taught from a distance. Your dog will also be taught to walk at heel off leash through multiple types of distractions. Our on leash program is a prerequisite for our off leash program.

FAQs

All of our programs can be tailored to fit your dog’s needs. If you do not want to be highly involved in your dog’s training, then lessons are unlikely to be a good fit and a board and train would be a better option

Unlike other programs, we made our programs knowing that not every dog has the same behaviors, mindset, etc.

Therefore, we utilize many different tactics in order to accomplish the desired result with your pets.

I have been training dogs since high school in a variety of different settings and programs. I have trained with competition programs, hunting programs, and strictly obedience as well. Our programs include pieces from each of these programs. I have 5+ years of experience and I’m still learning new things each and every day!

We use e-collars solely for our off leash programs (on-leash programs do not involve an e-collar). The reason we use them is to give ourselves a tool to reinforce our commands when our dogs are off leash. We must employ a “risk-reward” scenario with off leash dogs. Treats are great tools but if there is another distraction that is a greater reward, then the only way for our dogs to listen is by giving ourselves a way to hold them accountable.
